It’s happening again
Sherrod here. I wish I had better news today, but you deserve to know.
We only brought in half of the revenue we were expecting from Google and Facebook at the end of the week. I can’t overstate this: that is not good news for our campaign.
It looks like everything was running as it should, so we’re digging in to see what may be going on. Here’s what we know for sure: we have a major budget gap at the same time we need to be ramping up our final GOTV efforts.
Asking for money is my least favorite part of running for Senate, but that’s what I need to do. If we can’t make up for our slowdown, we will run out of resources tonight. Our bank account is almost at $0.
Early voting ends in Ohio tomorrow. I need your help so we can continue sharing our message. If you can afford to make a contribution to help us make up for this deficit, it will have an immediate impact. We’re so close to the finish line. Thanks for stepping up.
I’ve written to you about our Google and Facebook ads before. They aren’t necessarily the most glamorous part of our operation, but they really matter.
For one, these ads allow us to reach undecided voters and adjust our targeting much more quickly than we can with our field operation or TV ads. So many voters use these platforms – and it’s important for us to have a plan to reach them where they are.
You might also be surprised to hear that our Google and Facebook ads account for 25% of our total online fundraising every week. We have a massive digital outreach program, and they’re one of the best ways we can mobilize supporters and ensure folks can easily engage with our campaign.
The issue is, our online fundraising from these ads hit a wall on Thursday and Friday. We’re not sure why. It looks like our ads are running properly. But we do know that if this trend continues, we’ll be out of money a lot sooner than we expected – as soon as tonight.
Look, asking for money is my least favorite part of this. I’d much rather be talking to folks in person, sharing a coffee with you, hearing about your stories. But if we can’t make up for this setback, our campaign won’t be able to operate through Election Day.
I’m so proud of what we’re doing here. The generosity of this team blows me away, and I’m never ever going to trick you into supporting my campaign. That’s just not how I do things.
But now is one of those times when I really need some backup. When one part of our program misses the mark, I count on committed folks like you to help us correct the course.
The big money against us is significant, but it isn’t unbeatable. You can donate to our campaign’s ActBlue by clicking here to have an immediate impact, or send a check to 605 N. High Street, #320, Columbus, OH 43215.
Thanks for reading.
In solidarity,
Sherrod Brown
Before you click away! Republican spending in Ohio has reached $320 million, and Sherrod Brown is counting on your support to keep up. We can’t outspend them, but we can outwork them.
