One year down: A message from Sherrod’s campaign manager

Hey there – it’s Patrick, Sherrod’s campaign manager.

I know you don’t usually hear from me, but today I wanted to reflect on a few things.

One year ago today, Sherrod launched his run for the U.S. Senate. There are many reasons why he made that decision (and you can read about them here). From rising costs to a rigged system in Washington that puts billionaires over working people, there are countless ways our politics need to change.

So when Sherrod asked me to be his campaign manager, it was a no-brainer.

And what a year it’s been. We’ve traveled all across Ohio together, meeting people in every pocket of the state, hearing their hopes and worries. We’ve shared many meals, and lots of laughs, not to mention countless conversations about the Guardians.

It’s hard to believe we’ve been at this for a whole year already. A lot’s changed since those early days of the campaign, but our north star hasn’t.

We’re seeing the Republican playbook at work. Washington politicians like Jon Husted care more about themselves and their rich friends than working Americans – and they’re voting like it.

The results? An affordability crisis that forces people to make impossible choices, driven by a war nobody asked for. Gas and grocery prices are creeping up. Our opponent has rubber-stamped all of these harmful policies, and will continue to do so if given another term in the Senate.

It can be easy to get demoralized about this stuff. I’m not immune to that. But all of this reminds me why it’s so critical we get Sherrod elected so we can give Ohioans a voice again and retake the Senate majority.

Now, we have fewer than 80 days to go until the election and I wanted to share our game plan for the final stretch.

We’ve laid a rock-solid foundation for success.

Since launching our TV ads, we’ve been able to stay on the air every single week. That means Sherrod’s message is reaching Ohioans and our key voter targets. We’re sharing information about Sherrod’s plans to ban congressional stock trading and unrig the system.

Ohioans are hearing about Jon Husted’s record.

Folks in Ohio know Husted is working for a small subset of billionaires and special interests, have heard about his cozy ties to an Epstein co-conspirator, and are aware of his involvement in the biggest corruption scandal in Ohio history.

Our team is meeting folks across Ohio’s 88 counties.

In breweries, church basements, and at community events, we’re reaching people where they’re at. The work we’re doing is paying off, and we’re continuing to build the trust and support of our communities.

We’re in touch with voters everywhere and I couldn’t be more proud of the team that has made this all possible. That includes you.

Everything I’ve laid out – the ads, our outreach and organizing efforts, and the coalition of support we’ve built – only happens because of our grassroots efforts.

And we’ve caught National Republicans’ attention because of it. Trump has visited Ohio twice this year, and there’s no doubt he’ll be back to campaign with Husted, his endorsed candidate in this race. We’re putting up such a strong showing that the GOP has gone all in on defeating our campaign, spending upwards of $133 million dollars, which is more than they’re spending in any battleground state.

Rest assured, Republicans are fully aware of the power this movement has.

So many people have shown up for Sherrod and this campaign since day one. Honestly, it still blows me away. And every day since then, you have continued to show up. That kind of commitment and passion isn’t something to take for granted. It’s truly remarkable – and it’s why we’re on the cusp of flipping this seat and helping Democrats take back the Senate, too.
