Some campaigns don’t like to share much of their strategy publicly.
But our path to victory is straightforward. Unlike my opponent, we’re not relying on shady outside donors or dirty tactics to get us across the finish line.
We win with people.
People talking to their neighbors. People getting out to vote. People making their voices heard in whatever way they can.
Before I go on, please make sure you have a plan to vote, ideally early. Help others make their plans, too. If you want to go a step further, your contribution today will help us compete against the millions of dollars of outside spending in this race.
Here’s what we know:
Our message is resonating. I hear it when I’m traveling throughout Ohio and our poll numbers confirm it.
If we turn out our voters, we will win. We have the enthusiasm on our side, and now our task is making sure folks cast their ballots.
I’m not a pollster or a pundit, but I can tell you the early voting numbers we’re seeing are promising. CNN reported this:
“So far, affiliated Democrats make up larger shares of pre-election voters than they did two years ago, even in the most Republican parts of the state.”
My team has put a lot of thought into what sort of turnout we need to win. And it’s clear that we need to do better in parts of the state that some folks write off as “unwinnable.” To me, campaigning isn’t just about talking to the folks who would vote for you no matter what. Winning here means building a big tent and sharing our vision with anyone who sees this rigged system and wants something different. Something better.
Plenty of people are quick to count Ohio out. I’ve heard from people who have us chalked up as a “red state,” certain to go red this year too.
I think they’re dead wrong.
Thanks in large part to you, we are building the momentum we need to flip Ohio’s Senate seat and send Jon Husted packing. You don’t need to take my word for it — just look at the desperate spending from the other side. Crypto billionaires and corporations have poured enormous money into this race because they know it’s the only way they have a shot, and they are terrified of losing power.
What’s astounding is the way our grassroots team has responded. By chipping in what you can when you can to keep this race competitive one donation at a time.
That’s not something anyone should take for granted.
So here’s what we’re going to do in the next 7 days to make sure we stay on the course to win:
We’re going to sustain our voter outreach in every corner of Ohio. We’re working hard to get campaign flyers, postcards, and yard signs out in all 88 of Ohio’s counties. We’re taking nothing for granted and leaving no community behind. We’ll win by getting our message in front of as many voters as we can before November 3rd.
We’re scaling up our direct voter contact. That means knocking on doors and making phone calls. If you live in Ohio, you’ve probably seen a volunteer or organizer come to your door to talk to you about this election. If we can get our most engaged voters out to the polls sooner, we’ll be able to shift our attention to voters who need more encouragement to cast their ballots.
We’re launching new TV ads to spread the word. Outside spenders – Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, the Koch network, take your pick – are blanketing every screen in Ohio with attacks against me. They’re struggling to break through, but if we cede the airwaves, we’ll let them control the narrative. My team is spending what we can on ads to ensure Ohioans understand who’s to blame for this rigged system and who needs to be held accountable.
We’re hosting events as often and in as many places as possible. I’m honored to have so many folks tuning into this race and joining me on the campaign trail to energize Ohioans in this last push. We’ll be hosting meet and greets, rallies, roundtable discussions, and canvass launches to reach folks in person.
This race will be close. There’s no doubt about it.
We need to make our case to as many Ohioans who are willing to listen – and your involvement is what allows us to do that. So no matter what role you’re playing in this, I am grateful. It matters.
Running a campaign the right way takes all of us doing our part to pull it off. Thanks for reading this and spreading the word in your community. Do me a favor today and share this message. Talk to an Ohioan about your reason for voting. Make a donation, only if you can.
I know we have what it takes.
More soon,
Sherrod Brown
Before you click away! Republican spending in Ohio has reached $317 million, and Sherrod Brown is counting on your support to keep up. We can’t outspend them, but we can outwork them.
