Tomorrow in Cleveland

Hey everyone,

Tomorrow President Obama will join our campaign rally in Cleveland.

There are a few key battleground races this year and I know he cares about all of them – I’m grateful Ohio voters will get to hear what he has to say.

With 11 days to go, a recent poll from The New York Times shows that 5% of Ohio voters are still undecided in this race.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that some percentage of these voters hearing from President Obama – seeing him stand up, support our message, and make the case directly – will make a meaningful difference in the outcome on November 3.

President Obama won Ohio twice – by about 4.5% and just under 3%. He knows a little something about how to fight for hardworking Ohioans.

The polls say we are within 1-4 percentage points of our opponent. Some have us ahead, some have us slightly behind. All of them give us a real shot at sending a very loud message on November 3:

Ohioans want leadership who will fight for the people of Ohio – not the 1%, data center billionaires, Big Pharma, Big Tech, or crypto crowd.

President Obama knew how important it was for Democrats to focus not just on winning, but how we win. He knew that if it came down to a contest of which side has the wealthier, more powerful friends, we would lose. Instead, he asked ordinary folks to help build something from the bottom up. It relied on people deciding to chip in a small donation when they could — knowing that, together, it adds up to something bigger than the outside interest spending. And more than a million Americans did.

When Citizens United changed everything, these grassroots supporters became even more important. We’re seeing that play out in our race now. Republicans have spent more than $317 million against us here in Ohio alone. They’re spending as much as $4 million a day. I’ve never seen so many attack ads in my life – everyone in Ohio sees them too.

Campaigns like ours aren’t going to outspend them, so we have to be smarter and sharper in how we reach voters.

That means being able to stay up on TV to make sure we don’t let them dominate the narrative, but more importantly, it means ramping up our efforts on the doors and phones — doing everything we can to talk to voters in all 88 counties.

And if you can’t, I totally understand: Please forward this note to someone who cares about our race and what happens here in just 11 days.

I believe I am the best candidate for Ohio or I wouldn’t be running.

But I’ve also said many times that our race has never been just about me. Winning this election will cause a ripple effect for years — it will show others that Ohio is in play, and that, if there are enough of us pushing back, we can go up against the wealthiest, most powerful corporate interests in the world, and still win. And it will inspire young people, future candidates to think about running for office themselves some day.

That’s what Barack Obama did. And tomorrow, he’s part of our team to make history again in Ohio.

If you live nearby or can make the drive tomorrow – it’s not too late to RSVP.
